Your Top 7 Packaging Questions — Answered by Transpack (2026 Edition)
Oct 23 , 2026

As 2026 packaging budgets tighten and retail buyers demand more than just a pretty box, customers are asking sharper, more commercial questions before placing a custom packaging order. TRANSPACK, a 20-year custom plastic packaging manufacturer based in Ningbo with production in Ningbo and Xiamen, has compiled the seven questions it hears most often from US retailers, bakeries, and food brands — and answered them transparently.

"Buyers are no longer just asking 'what does it look like?'" says Gary, Sales Director at TRANSPACK. "They want to know MOQ, landed cost, whether the box will survive a freight pallet, and whether the sustainability claims are real. Innova Market Insights has flagged evidence-based sustainability and personalization as top 2026 trends, and our customers are right on that curve." Here are the answers, straight from the factory floor.

Q1: What is your MOQ for custom Clear plastic boxes?

A: 1,000 pieces per style.

This is our standard minimum order quantity for custom Clear folding boxes,  blister packs, and macaron trays. One thousand units is the sweet spot that keeps setup cost amortized while still letting small bakeries, DTC brands, and seasonal gift lines test a custom SKU without over-committing. For blank (unprinted) standard-size boxes, we can ship lower — just ask.

Q2: What is the unit price?

A: $0.10 – $0.40 per unit, depending on the dimensions, material, and printing requirements.

The unit price is primarily determined by the following four factors:

(1) The dimensions of the finished box;

(2) The material type and thickness—we offer transparent PET plastic sheets in thicknesses ranging from 0.25 mm to 0.80 mm;

(3) The print design—including print coverage, the number of colors, and whether it involves full-surface 8-color printing or simpler printing (e.g., only on the sides);

(4) Order quantity—larger orders qualify for greater discounts.

Please provide your dieline (die-cut template) or product dimensions, and we will provide an accurate quote within 24 hours.

Q3: How much does printing cost?

A: $0.05 – $0.22 USD per piece, using our in-house 8-color UV press.

We run our own UV printing machine — no third-party printer, no markup. It supports up to 8 colors in CMYK plus spot, which means we can match your brand Pantone and run high-resolution graphics directly on the PET sheet. The per-piece print cost scales with print coverage and box size; a two-color side panel is cheaper than a full-bleed 8-color wrap.

Q4: How much does a sample cost?

A: $60 USD for a blank sample, $200 USD for a printed sample — both including international shipping.

Blank sample (unprinted): $60, door-to-door. You get a physical box in your exact size, material, and fold style so you can test fit your product and see the clarity of the PET.

Printed sample: $200, door-to-door. We run your artwork on our UV press and ship a physical printed box so you can approve color, registration, and finish before bulk production. Sample lead time is 5 days on the press, plus 6 days courier.

Q5: What is the shipping volume and how do you pack for freight?

A: Boxes are nested flat, then packed in export cartons; we can provide CBM per 1,000 pieces for your forwarder.

Folding PET plastic boxes ship flat — the die-cut, creased, but unglued — so you are paying freight for air between the panels, not for empty box volume. This is why Transpack's transparent PET folding boxes consistently land cheaper than rigid acrylic or pre-assembled plastic boxes on a landed-cost basis. We can also ship clamshells and macaron trays nested in cartons, and quote FOB Xiamen / Ningbo, or DDP to your US warehouse. Tell us your destination and we will factor duty and ocean freight into the quote.

Q6: Is custom packaging actually worth it for my brand?

A: For a retail or gifting SKU, yes — and the math is straightforward.

Generic stock boxes look generic on the shelf. A custom clear plastic box with your brand color, window, and hang-tab does three things that stock packaging cannot:

Drives shelf pull-through. Clear PET lets the customer see the product (macaron, cupcake, cookie, toy) while the printed panel carries your logo.

Justifies a price point. A well-printed gift box supports a 15–30% retail price uplift over a polybag.

Survives the supply chain. Our soft-crease technology uses radio-frequency creasing so the box folds cleanly without cracking, through truck freight, warehouse pallet, and shelf life.

The break-even point is typically 1,000–3,000 units — which is exactly why our MOQ is 1,000.

Q7: Can you handle sustainable materials and retail-compliant packaging?

A: Yes — and we provide the evidence, not just the buzzword.

We stock food-grade PET plastic material, all compliant with FDA food-contact requirements. Our cupcake boxes and macaron trays are made from recyclable PET, and we can supply material certificates for your Walmart / Target vendor compliance file. If you need a "recyclable" claim on the shelf, we will hand you the actual resin grade and test report — not a marketing line.
